It walks the fence right between the catch-and-release sport of fishing and the decadent love of eating delicious fish. Not to worry. Where Does Shore Lunch Take Place?
A true shore lunch takes place anywhere you can hit land and start a fire. However, we have several fully-stocked sites around the shores of Lake Utik to prepare lunches for our guests. In fact, we’re going let you in on a few secrets about shore lunching in Canada, so you too can create this experience for your friends and family.

What Food Do Anglers Eat at Shore Lunch?
The most common fish we serve is walleye. However, our staff loves to cook the fish you caught yourself, so it’s really a surprise for the day of. In truth, the only thing you need for an authentic shore lunch is a fire and some fresh fish. On the other hand, North Haven Resort takes its lunches a bit further than just fish. We offer you several options for your fish, including:

At North Haven Resort, we are aware that many of our guests may have certain dietary restrictions. We make every effort possible to accommodate these needs at our shore lunches and any other dining experiences with us.
Easy DIY Shore Lunch: Pan-fried Fish Recipe
- Cut fish fillets into pieces and dry with a paper towel
- Pour oil into a pan or skillet and heat it to around 350 degrees Fahrenheit
- Place fillets into your egg/milk batter
- Soak for a moment and transfer immediately to your preferred coating crumbs
- Make sure fish is thoroughly coated with the dry batter
- Place fish carefully in the hot oil (about half should be under oil)
- Fry for a few minutes and flip to cook the topside
- Remove fish and drain on a paper towel covered plate
- Let stand for a few minutes (the longer, the crispier)
- Enjoy your lunch
Other easy side dishes can enhance this already simple recipe. For example, try frying up some onions and potatoes to serve alongside your fish. Another easy side dish to consider is just a simple can of baked beans. There you have it: shore lunch you can make anywhere like a true Canadian angler.
